Message from the President

Hello Fellow Chamber Members,

I am happy to be the new Chamber President and look forward to the next twelve months.   During the past several years, I have met many of you at mixers and other events.  Over the course of the upcoming year, I'd like the opportunity to sit down with each of you and talk about what you'd like from the Chamber, about how the Chamber can be the "voice" of the business community, and about how we as fellow Chamber members may be able to help each other.

I look forward to visiting with you.  I hope you have a great summer.

Presentation on High Speed Train Proposal at City Council Meeting
Monday, July 10, 2017 High-speed train service of up to 300 miles per hour has been proposed for the DC/Washington corridor. Some of the routes under consideration would pass through or very near Bowie. Baltimore Washington MAGLEV Project Director David Henley will attend the July 10 City Council meeting to brief Council and residents on the status of the project. The meeting begins at 8 p.m. in the Council Chambers at City Hall. The public is invited and encouraged to attend this important meeting about a project that could potentially affect the City of Bowie. The meeting will also be broadcast on the Bowie Government Channel (Verizon 10/Comcast 71) and on the City website. Visit www.cityofbowie.org/maglev for links to more information about this project.

Although Maryland's unemployment rate improved slightly in May, the state lost 1,600 jobs, about a 0.1 percent decrease.

Many of the May job losses, 1,300 jobs out of 1,600, came in the private sector, in industries like education, manufacturing, financial and leisure and hospitality.

The Maryland Chamber of Commerce works to expand and improve private sector jobs, strengthening the state's economy.
Unemployment dropped to 4.2 percent in May, down from 4.3 percent in April.

Overall, Maryland has added 43,100 jobs since May 2016.

Corporate Partner Program

The Chamber offers opportunities throughout the year for companies to participate and receive recognition. Sometimes companies are very generous with their support throughout the year and discover at the end of the year that their total participation could have afforded them much more recognition had they identified the events in their marketing strategy during their annual budget preparation.
