FEBRUARY 2013
PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE

President Len Lucchi 2013
Dear fellow Chamber members,

It looks like we survived January with only a trace of snow, no closed schools, and no power outages. I hope your business years are starting off as well as our weather year.

It is amazing how, year after year, Mayor Robinson keep his State of the City address interesting and entertaining. This year, his address was quite important to the Greater Bowie business community because of the City's consideration of the Melford Village proposal by Chamber member St. John Properties. The St. John proposal envisions a walkable village with hotels, senior housing, apartments, village offices, flats, villas, townhomes, retail, and even a clock tower. To accomplish this, St. John will need a change in its covenants with the City of Bowie that govern development there.

The General Assembly is about to enter its second trimester and we do not know yet about whether there will be a proposal for critical transportation funding. There are huge waiting lists for road projects and the Transportation Trust Fund is running dry. Hopefully, we will hear some good news soon.

I am very pleased that the Greater Bowie Chamber of Commerce will be cosponsoring the annual State of the County event with the Greater Prince George's Business Roundtable on April 24th, 8am, at The Country Club at Woodmore. The Redskins may have RGIII, but Prince George's County has RBIII and he has put a lot of points on the scoreboard these past two years.

Finally, I am starting to feel the winds of liberation as I wind down my two years as Chamber President. We will be forming a Nominating Committee in February to choose our next officers and board members.  Members interested i serving on the board should contact the Chamber office.
